ANKLE AND LOWER LEG PAIN
ANKLE SPRAIN
-
Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries.
-
A sudden jolt or twist can overstretch and tear the supporting ligaments of the joint, causing pain and swelling.
-
Occurs when the ankle is rolled, usually during high inpact activity with running, jumping or changing direction.
SHIN SPLINTS
-
Pain through the front of the leg, usually coincide with an increase in workout intensity.
-
Contributing factures include overuse, a stress fracture, or excessive pronation (flat feet).
ACHILLES TENDONITIS
-
A chronic (long-term) condition associated with the progressive degeneration of the Achilles tendon.
-
Sometimes the Achilles tendon does not function properly because of multiple, minor microscopic tears of the tendon, which cannot heal and repair itself correctly.
-
Eventually, the tendon thickens, weakens, and becomes painful due to chronic localised inflammation.
