ANKLE AND LOWER LEG PAIN

ANKLE SPRAIN

  • Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries.

  • A sudden jolt or twist can overstretch and tear the supporting ligaments of the joint, causing pain and swelling.

  • Occurs when the ankle is rolled, usually during high inpact activity with running, jumping or changing direction.

SHIN SPLINTS

  • Pain through the front of the leg, usually coincide with an increase in workout intensity.

  • Contributing factures include overuse, a stress fracture, or excessive pronation (flat feet).

ACHILLES TENDONITIS

  • A chronic (long-term) condition associated with the progressive degeneration of the Achilles tendon.

  • Sometimes the Achilles tendon does not function properly because of multiple, minor microscopic tears of the tendon, which cannot heal and repair itself correctly.

  • Eventually, the tendon thickens, weakens, and becomes painful due to chronic localised inflammation.
