SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

What is shock wave therapy?

-
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment which means NO surgery is needed.
-
Pain reduction (known as analgesia) occurs through inhibition of pain sensing nerves.
-
There are very few side effects which means you can walk in and walk out of the clinic on the same day; no time off work is required.
-
Collagen production is stimulated which helps muscles, tendons and soft tissue structures to heal and repair.

How does shockwave therapy work?
-
The formation of new blood vessels occurs in the area because the shock waves promote a process called angiogenesis. This means more oxygen and nutrients are able to help repair injuries.

What can conditions can shockwave therapy be used for?
-
Shockwave therapy has been shown to be an effective treatment for soft tissue injuries, particularly chronic conditions; including plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis, heel spurs) and Achilles tendinopathies.

How many treatments are required?
-
Shock wave therapy has been shown to be effective when applied weekly for 3 to 5 weeks. Each treatment takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
